Over 25 years ago when the Animal Emergency Clinics were established, we only had one technician and one doctor. My, how we've grown! Today, we employ eight veterinarians, and around 50 support staff and technicians.
Each member of our staff, regardless of background or experience, receives specialized training developed especially for the fast-paced world of emergency medicine.
For most of our staff, AEC is their primary, full-time job. That means that they have decided to specialized in emergency medicine, and are committed to providing the very best emergency service to both you and your pet.
In order to encourage this high level of excellence from our staff, AEC actively encourages our employees to continue learning and developing their skills. Many of our staff members attend several conferences, seminars, and classes each year, sometimes traveling thousands of miles to learn from the very best in the industry. Many also are also enrolled in formal programs at local colleges and universities.
Working at an emergency veterinary clinic can be a very demanding job, but many of our staff prefer to think of it as "high input, high output." They pour their heart and soul into their jobs, and get back at least as much as they give. Any one of them will tell you that there's nothing quite like the feeling of going home knowing they've saved a life, comforted a scared pet owner, and made just a little bit of a difference in someone's life.
In addition to AEC's human staff, there are three very special, very hardworking individuals that deserve mention. Simon, Elliot, and Raz are our three blood donor cats, who live at the St. Paul and Oakdale locations. In addition to their primary duties taking turns as blood donors to our feline patients needing transfusions, their job duties also include lying in sunbeams, receiving scratches under the chin, occupying laps, and calming the other staff members down after a hard day's work. The rest of us couldn't do our jobs without them.
